Drivers will encounter lane closures as work to rehabilitate the concrete pavement on a roughly 20-mile stretch of Interstate 99 in Centre County gets underway, according to PennDOT
Starting Monday, short-term, single-lane closures will be implemented from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on I-99 southbound between exit 80/Harrison Road in Spring Township and mile marker 58 near Port Matilda.
Lane closures are expected to transition to the northbound side “in a few weeks,” according to PennDOT. Work for this construction season will continue until Thanksgiving and will resume next year, with anticipated completion in November 2027.
Schedules are subject to change due to weather or other circumstances.
“PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution when traveling through all work zones, to obey posted speed limits and work zone signage, and to always buckle up,” the department wrote in a news release.
The project will restore and rehabilitate the approach slabs of several bridges along I-99 between mile markers 58 and 79, with the goal of improving ride quality, extending their service life and enhancing safety for motorists, according to PennDOT.
Overall work includes paving, concrete patching and bridge deck repairs, crack sealing and line painting. Merlo, Inc. of Mineral Point is the contractor on this $4.1 million project.
